Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India, confirmed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday. Speaking at a conference hosted by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), Lavrov stated that arrangements are being made for Putin's visit following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to Russia in July 2024.
Lavrov emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship, noting that it was Modi's first foreign visit post re-election, and now, “it’s our turn.” The exact dates of Putin's India visit are yet to be confirmed.
The visit would be Putin's first trip to India since December 2021 and his first since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Modi had extended the invitation during his Moscow visit, and Putin's acceptance signals continued diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
