After attending an event at the Chatham House think tank in London, Jaishankar was accosted by pro-Khalistan supporters. A video circulating online depicts a man rushing towards the minister's vehicle and tearing the Indian national flag in the presence of London police officers, who appeared unresponsive to the act of vandalism.

The incident has raised significant concerns about the safety of Indian diplomats abroad and the growing audacity of extremist factions. Jaishankar's UK visit, scheduled from March 4-9, aims to strengthen the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership, encompassing areas such as trade, health, education, and defense cooperation. Following his engagements in the UK, the minister is set to visit Ireland from March 6-7 to meet with Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris and engage with the Indian diaspora.
