Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's latest act, Naya Bharat, has ignited a political firestorm, leading to Shiv Sena workers vandalizing Mumbai's Habitat Comedy Club. The outrage followed Kamra's satirical take on Maharashtra's political landscape, particularly targeting Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, referring to him as a 'gaddar' (traitor).
As the clip of Kamras act went viral, Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel lodged a police complaint, while MP Naresh Mhaske issued a stern warning, saying Kamra would be “chased out of India.” Following the attack, The Habitat announced its temporary closure, expressing fear over being repeatedly targeted.
Kamra's jibe, amplified by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, has deepened political divisions, with leaders accusing him of being a "contract comedian" paid to attack Shinde. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
