In a recent speech to the U.S. Congress, President Donald Trump thanked Pakistan for helping to catch Mohammad Sharifullah, a top ISIS-K terrorist involved in the deadly 2021 Kabul airport bombing. The attack killed 13 U.S. soldiers and around 170 Afghan civilians.
Pakistan's intelligence agency (ISI) and the CIA worked together to track down Sharifullah. He was arrested in Pakistan's Balochistan province after U.S. intelligence shared information about his location.
Trump announced that Sharifullah was captured and would be sent to the U.S. for justice. He specifically praised Pakistan, saying, "I want to thank the government of Pakistan for helping arrest this monster."
Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, responded by appreciating Trump's words. He said Pakistan is committed to fighting terrorism and will continue working with other countries to maintain peace and security.
The 2021 Kabul airport bombing happened when U.S. and allied forces were evacuating people from Afghanistan. The attack was a major tragedy, and Sharifullah's arrest is seen as a big step toward justice for the victims and their families.
Experts believe this moment could help improve relations between the U.S. and Pakistan. In the past, their relationship has had many ups and downs, but this successful counterterrorism effort shows that both nations can work together against common threats.
Trump's public appreciation of Pakistan highlights how important international cooperation is in fighting terrorism. Many hope this will lead to stronger ties between the two countries and more efforts to ensure global security.
