In a significant development highlighting national security sensitivities, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has dismissed Constable Munir Ahmed for concealing his marriage to a Pakistani woman. The decision comes after Ahmed, a member of the CRPF's 41 Battalion, failed to disclose full details about his cross-border marriage to Minal Khan, a resident of Sialkot, Pakistan.
Ahmed reportedly married Khan through video conferencing on May 24, 2024. Although he had submitted a request to marry her in 2023, he did not wait for the necessary official approval, as required under CRPF service rules. This omission has been deemed a serious breach of conduct and protocol, particularly given the sensitive geopolitical context and the CRPF’s role in national security.
The situation drew further attention after Minal Khan, who had come to India on a visiting visa, was asked to leave following the Pahalgam terror attack. Her visa was among several revoked as part of the government's heightened scrutiny of Pakistani nationals. Although Khan applied for a long-term visa and received favorable security recommendations from intelligence and police agencies, the CRPF maintained that Ahmed’s failure to follow due process justified his dismissal.
Khan briefly faced deportation but was granted interim relief by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. In public statements, she has appealed for humanitarian consideration, emphasizing her wish to live peacefully with her husband and condemning terrorism in all forms.
