Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Zagreb, Croatia, marking the final leg of his three-nation diplomatic tour that included stops in Cyprus and Canada . This is the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia, underscoring a significant shift in India’s engagement with Central and Eastern Europe .
Modi received a ceremonial welcome upon arrival, with a warm reception from Prime Minister Andrej Plenković . During his stay, he is set to hold bilateral discussions with PM Plenković and meet President Zoran Milanović, focusing on strengthening cooperation in sectors such as trade, technology, defence, agriculture, science, and cultural exchange .
The visit also features plans to sign several key agreements - including pacts on agriculture, science & tech, and cultural exchanges - as well as an extension of the Hindi Chair at the University of Zagreb. Modi referred to his stopover in Croatia as a "special visit" on social media, expressing gratitude for the hospitality .
This historic engagement will further solidify India’s ties with the European Union and showcase a deeper strategic partnership with Croatia.
