A tragic incident struck near the Afghanistan–Pakistan border in Kurram district's Parachinar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a landmine exploded in a forest on June 25, 2025. Four people were killed and several others injured when one victim stepped onto the device, triggering a deadly blast, according to local police . The injured were rushed to a hospital in Kurram for urgent treatment.
Authorities note that while sectarian violence between Shiite and Sunni groups has largely been quelled since a ceasefire in January, the discovery of landmines remains uncommon - but highly dangerous . Investigators believe the remnants of past militant activity may have left explosive devices scattered throughout the forest, posing hazards to civilians. No organization has claimed responsibility for the explosion. The blast highlights the ongoing instability plaguing the area, despite recent calm. Security forces have ramped up search operations to locate additional mines and prevent further tragedies, underscoring the need for heightened awareness in communities near the porous tribal border.
