A Delhi court has issued notices to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others following a chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the ₹988-crore National Herald money laundering case. Special Judge Vishal Gogne emphasized that the accused have the "right to be heard" before cognizance of the chargesheet, setting the next hearing for May 8. The chargesheet, filed under Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), lists Sonia and Rahul Gandhi as accused numbers 1 and 2.
It also names Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, and Young Indian Pvt. Ltd., in which the Gandhis hold a 76% stake. The ED alleges the duo benefited from acquiring assets worth ₹2,000 crore for just ₹50 lakh. The Congress party, dismissing the allegations, labeled the case as "political vendetta." This high-profile legal battle is poised to reignite intense political discourse as the case unfolds in court.
