Delhi HC warns DU, Police over DUSU Poll Code Violations!

The Delhi High Court has sharply criticised Delhi University, the police, and student organisations for failing to enforce the code of conduct during the ongoing Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections. A bench led by Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela warned candidates against using “money and muscle power,” luxury vehicles, JCBs, and tractors in campaign rallies - practices that breach both the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and the DUSU election code.

In Kirori Mal College, tensions boiled over when student groups ABVP and NSUI clashed on the final day of campaigning. The High Court has threatened to countermand the elections if violations persist and clarified that any further infractions may lead to contempt proceedings.

Authorities reported taking some measures: DU issued show-cause notices and warning letters to candidates; Delhi Traffic Police deployed personnel and issued thousands of challans; and backing organisations were directed to curb the use of flamboyant motor vehicles and public displays.

The court has asked for status reports from the university and police, emphasizing proactive action from the outset rather than response after violations.
