A new controversy has rocked Delhi politics as Chief Minister Atishi finds herself at the center of an FIR filed by the Delhi Police for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The complaint, lodged by the returning officer of the Kalkaji constituency, accuses Atishi of using a government vehicle for political purposes during the ongoing elections.
The FIR, registered under Section 223(a) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, could lead to up to a year in jail or a fine, depending on the severity of the offense. Delhi Police maintains that a PWD vehicle was allegedly used for transporting election material, despite a ban on the use of official vehicles for campaigning.
The development has sparked a fiery political exchange. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP of weaponizing institutions. AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal slammed the FIR, claiming it symbolizes a corrupt system that favors BJP and Congress while targeting opposition leaders. “AAP is fighting against this rotten system to bring change,” Kejriwal said.
On the other hand, Delhi BJP leaders submitted a video as evidence, alleging misuse of government machinery. BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor urged the Election Commission to act swiftly and impartially.
The FIR raises broader questions about the misuse of power during elections, deepening the rivalry between the AAP and BJP. As Delhi awaits the BJP's response, the political temperature in the capital continues to rise.
