A former peanut farmer from Georgia, Carter’s presidency from 1977 to 1981 was marked by the Camp David Accords, which brokered peace between Israel and Egypt, but also by economic struggles, the Iran hostage crisis, and an energy crisis. Though his administration faced challenges, including double-digit inflation and high gas prices, Carter's focus on human rights and diplomacy left a lasting legacy.
