In the remote hills of Himachal Pradesh, women postmasters are quietly keeping villages connected. As Gramin Dak Sevaks, they walk 10–12 km daily, crossing forests, steep slopes, rain, and snow to deliver letters, parcels, and pension payments to elderly residents in far-flung areas.
For many villages, they are more than postal workers - they are a lifeline. From ensuring pensions arrive on time to checking on seniors who live alone, these women carry responsibility along with their mailbags. Initially met with surprise in some areas, they are now widely respected for their dedication and consistency.
Despite tough terrain, unpredictable weather, and physical exhaustion, they continue their rounds with pride. Their work proves that public service doesn’t always come with uniforms or offices - sometimes, it arrives on foot, every single day, powered by commitment and courage.
