Gaza sees deadliest strikes in weeks, 58 killed ahead of ceasefire talks in the White House

On June 30, 2025, Israeli forces launched a major escalation in Gaza, conducting heavy airstrikes and tank operations that killed at least 58 Palestinians—among them women, children, and a journalist—in northern Gaza, which experienced its most intense bombardment in weeks. Evacuation orders were issued as Israeli tanks advanced into eastern Gaza City, targeting homes and schools and worsening the humanitarian crisis. Meanwhile, 22 Palestinians were reportedly shot and killed near food distribution points, highlighting the peril civilians face during aid collection efforts.

These strikes coincided with the arrival of Israel’s strategic affairs minister, Ron Dermer, in Washington for imminent ceasefire discussions proposed by the White House, calling for a 60-day truce and hostage exchange. Israel maintains its actions aim to eliminate Hamas’s military capabilities, while Hamas demands a full Israeli withdrawal as a prerequisite for any agreement.

This simultaneous escalation of violence alongside diplomatic negotiations heightens global concern. With over 56,000 Palestinians killed since October 2023, the humanitarian situation remains dire—displacement is widespread, essential services are collapsing, and international pressure is mounting for an immediate ceasefire.
