Google appears to be working on a new feature for its Gemini AI chatbot, tentatively called “Circle Search,” which mirrors the popular “Circle to Search” functionality currently available on Android devices. This feature would allow users to simply circle any part of their screen and directly ask Gemini questions about it, potentially enhancing the way users interact with content on their phones.
The development came to light after Android Authority spotted a brief moment in an Instagram video posted by Google, where an internal test build of Gemini labeled “Circle Search (DF)” was seen. The “DF” tag refers to “Dog Food,” an internal term used by companies like Google when they test features before public release. This suggests that the new feature is still in early internal testing and not yet available to the general public.
If released, Circle Search could streamline the way users share information with Gemini. Currently, users need to take a screenshot and manually attach it to initiate a query. With this feature, they could directly circle content on the screen and engage with Gemini in a more intuitive and efficient manner.
While it remains unconfirmed by Google, there’s speculation that both Gemini’s Circle Search and the existing Google Search-based Circle to Search might coexist initially. Over time, they could be merged for a seamless experience. As of now, however, this feature is not publicly available and appears to be used only in internal builds.
