In a landmark ruling, a Delhi court sentenced a 46-year-old teacher to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating a teenage student in 2016. The Additional Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar described the accused's betrayal of trust as a “severely aggravating factor,” highlighting the deep psychological trauma inflicted on the victim.

The minor, who gave birth to a boy later sent for adoption, faced multiple assaults, leading to profound consequences. The victim, married post-incident, died years later, survived by her family. Her mother, a vendor earning Rs 5,000 monthly, received Rs 16.5 lakh in compensation.

The court emphasized the need to protect children and deliver justice, aiming to send a strong societal message. Special Public Prosecutor Ashish Kajal argued for maximum punishment, underscoring the gravity of the crime and the vulnerability of the victim.
