On April 14, 2025, Blue Origin successfully completed its NS-31 mission, marking a milestone in space history with an all-women crew aboard the New Shepard spacecraft. The 11-minute suborbital journey launched and landed in West Texas, carrying six prominent figures: Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, and Kerianne Flynn.
Pop star Katy Perry captivated audiences by singing “What a Wonderful World” during the flight and later expressed how deeply the experience moved her, calling it second only to motherhood. She also kissed the ground upon return, symbolizing her connection to Earth and gratitude.
Gayle King reflected on overcoming her fears, emphasizing the emotional impact and saying the mission was more than just a ride—it was a life-changing journey. Aisha Bowe noted the strong sense of sisterhood among the crew during their time in space.
The autonomous New Shepard rocket, designed for full reusability, soared past the Kármán line with zero carbon emissions. Each astronaut had a window seat in the spacious, pressurized capsule, which offered stunning views of Earth and space.
Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp praised the crew’s performance, calling them “amazing,” while Lauren Sánchez responded to critics by highlighting the hard work of the team behind the mission.
The NS-31 flight not only showcased advancements in space travel technology but also symbolized a powerful step toward inclusivity and representation in the field of space exploration.
