An Air India flight, AI171, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, minutes after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing 204 people, including all 12 cabin crew members, Ahmedabad police reported. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, en route to London Gatwick, plummeted into a medical students’ hostel in Meghani Nagar, killing five students on the ground. Among the victims was Roshni Rajendra Songhare, a cabin crew member and travel influencer with over 54,000 Instagram followers, whose death was confirmed by Maharashtra MLA Ravindra Chavan on X. A British national, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, seated in 11A, was the sole survivor, escaping the wreckage.
The cause remains under investigation by the DGCA and NTSB, with footage showing a rapid descent after takeoff. Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder piloted the flight. Tata Group announced ₹1 crore compensation for victims’ families, as rescue efforts continue amid devastation.
