In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Pakistani women who married former Kashmiri militants under a 2010 rehabilitation policy now plead to stay in India, following the government's latest visa revocation orders. Many, like Alyza Rafiq and Zahida Begum, tearfully appealed to authorities, insisting they would rather die than be forced back to Pakistan.
The women, who have lived for years in Kashmir, built families, and participated in civic life, showcased their Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and domicile certificates to prove their integration. They fear uprooting their children, who have only known life in India, and warn that returning to Pakistan would destroy their futures.
With new immigration laws tightening exits for Pakistani nationals, the emotional appeals highlight the deep human cost of geopolitical shifts. As the April 29 medical visa deadline nears, uncertainty looms over hundreds of families now caught in a bureaucratic nightmare.
