The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken disciplinary action against Pakistan players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan following controversial conduct during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against India in Dubai on September 21.
Match referee Richie Richardson, after holding hearings, imposed a fine equal to 30 per cent of Rauf’s match fees, citing his “abusive language and aggressive gestures” including a “6-0” finger sign and mimicking a crashing aircraft. Meanwhile, Farhan, who celebrated his half-century by mimicking a gunshot gesture, was spared a financial penalty but was officially reprimanded.
The BCCI had lodged a formal complaint against both players, prompting the ICC probe. Pakistan’s board has defended the acts as spontaneous, but critics say such gestures cross the boundary of sportsmanship. With tensions already high, the sanctions underscore the ICC’s attempt to rein in politically charged actions in volatile India–Pakistan contests.
