In a tragic incident, 21-year-old Sreehari Sukesh, a student pilot from Kerala, was killed in a mid-air collision in Canada. The accident also claimed the life of his classmate, 20-year-old Savanna May Royes, a Canadian national. Both were aviation students training at a local flight school near Quebec.
The crash occurred during a routine training exercise on July 9, 2025. Initial reports indicate that the aircraft they were flying collided with another small plane, leading to an immediate crash. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but both pilots were pronounced dead.
The Indian consulate in Toronto has confirmed the identity of the Indian national and is in touch with the family to facilitate the repatriation of his remains. The Canadian Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the crash, focusing on possible technical failures and air traffic protocols.
The aviation community and training institute have expressed deep grief, calling it a heartbreaking loss of two young, promising pilots.
