Eighty years after it was first purchased, Pablo Picasso’s painting “Bust of a Woman in a Flowery Hat” has resurfaced and will be publicly displayed by the auction house Lucien Paris on October 24.
Measuring 80 cm by 60 cm, the oil-on-canvas features Dora Maar, a French photographer and painter, who shared a long and complex relationship with Picasso.
Created when Picasso was 61 and living in Germany-occupied Paris during World War II, the painting reflects both the artistic brilliance of the period and the personal intensity of his connection with Dora.
The artwork carries a reserve price of €8 million, but experts expect it to sell for much more due to its rarity and historical significance.
Its reappearance marks an exciting moment for art collectors, historians, and fans of Picasso worldwide, offering a glimpse into the artist’s life during a turbulent era. With the sale attracting global attention, this masterpiece not only celebrates Picasso’s legacy but also highlights the enduring fascination with artworks that remain hidden for decades before reemerging in the public eye.
