On June 14, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) issued a public apology after posting a missile‑range map that incorrectly depicted Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh as part of Pakistan. The graphic, shared on X (formerly Twitter), was intended to show the reach of Iranian missiles amid ongoing Israel–Iran tensions .
Outraged Indian social media users flagged the error, tagging the IDF and even Prime Minister Netanyahu. Within about 90 minutes, the IDF responded directly, stating: "This post is an illustration of the region. This map fails to precisely depict borders. We apologise for any offense caused."
Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar characterized the map as a "bad unintended infographic" and confirmed it had been removed and corrected . While the Indian government has not officially commented, many view the incident as diplomatically sensitive - especially since India and Israel maintain strong defence and trade ties .
This episode underscores how even minor cartographic errors by a close ally can inflame national sentiment, emphasizing the geopolitical importance of accurate border representation.
