A new pod hotel has been introduced at New Delhi Metro Station, providing a comfortable and affordable stay option for in-transit passengers. Positioned near New Delhi Railway Station, this facility caters to travelers needing a short rest between journeys.
The project is part of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) broader efforts to utilize metro spaces for commercial purposes. The New Delhi Metro Station, a crucial interchange between the Yellow Line and Airport Express Line, now hosts this accommodation within its 3,000-square-metre commercial zone. Only a section of this area is dedicated to the pod hotel, while the rest is allocated for other business ventures.
In addition to this initiative, DMRC is expanding its commercial footprint across multiple metro stations. Locations like Malviya Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Azadpur, and Faridabad Sector 20B now feature new retail, food, and office spaces. A banquet hall has also been launched at Noida Electronic City metro station.
Looking ahead, DMRC plans to develop an industrial space at Mohan Estate, a large commercial hub at Kohat Enclave, and retail expansions at Azadpur and Anand Vihar. These efforts aim to increase non-fare revenue, enhance passenger experience, and support metro system sustainability. Despite facing challenges such as land-use approvals, DMRC continues to explore new ways to integrate urban infrastructure with commercial growth.
