“Have you had your whiskey?” says Aman Gupta to Woodsmen's founder on Shark Tank India

A young entrepreneur from Delhi recently presented his liquor brand, Woodsmen Himalayan Whiskey, on Shark Tank India season 4. He asked for Rs 1.5 crore in exchange for just 0.5% equity, leaving the sharks speechless.

With a Rs 300 crore valuation, Aman Gupta humorously asked, "Apni whiskey pi ke aaya hai kya?" (Are you high on your own supply?). The founder confidently shared that his company reached Rs 125 crore in revenue in only three years and expected to hit Rs 80 crore this year, impressing the sharks with these numbers.

However, Vineeta Singh asked which product was the top seller. The founder revealed that the Himalayan whiskey he was focusing on only accounted for 10% of the revenue, with 90% coming from a cheaper whiskey.

He explained that the premium whiskey had been launched recently and leveraged the association of the Himalayas with purity to appeal to customers. While Vineeta appreciated this insight, she decided to withdraw, uncertain about the market for the premium product.

Kunal Bahl admired the founder but mentioned he typically invests in earlier-stage companies where he can take a larger equity stake and provide more long-term help. Kunal was also amused when the founder admitted his main reason for being on the show was to boost his brand and raise funds. Kunal backed out. Azhar Iqubal, lacking knowledge of the alcohol industry, also decided not to invest.

Aman Gupta pointed out that the alcohol business was risky, so he chose not to take the risk. Ritesh Agarwal, despite being impressed with the founder's entrepreneurial spirit, stated he didn't understand the whiskey market and couldn't invest in it.

Ultimately, the founder left without a deal, even after attempting to convince the sharks that you don't need to be a whiskey expert to succeed in the business.
