While working in the US in 2018, Taran Chhabra saw a big gap in India's footwear market. Most shoes in India were made using synthetic materials that harm the environment.
So, Taran and his co-founder Amar decided to start Neeman's, a shoe brand that focuses on sustainability and comfort.
Neeman’s creates shoes from natural, recycled, and biodegradable materials. One of their main materials is Merino wool from Australia, which is soft, breathable, and suitable for all types of weather.
This wool is so comfortable that the shoes can be worn without socks, making them perfect for daily use. The wool is also sourced ethically—no harm comes to the sheep, and the farms are family-owned.
The company has grown quickly, with a 15x increase in customers and sales in 2021. It also opened its first store in Hyderabad and raised ₹20 crore to launch more products and expand internationally.
Neeman's has brought new materials to India’s footwear industry, like recycled plastic bottles, old tyres, and cotton. Their popular products include ReLive Knits, wool joggers, and eco flip-flops.
The brand's next goal is to create more sock-free, eco-friendly shoes and reach more markets, both in India and abroad.
