Following the tragic terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, the Jammu and Kashmir government has temporarily closed 48 out of 87 tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley. This move is aimed at ensuring the safety of visitors and allowing uninterrupted security operations in vulnerable areas.
The closures are expected to significantly affect the region's tourism-driven economy, with local hotels, restaurants, and tour operators already reporting mass cancellations. Authorities have classified the closed areas as high-risk or under active operations. The situation will be reviewed periodically for reopening.
Tourists are urged to stay informed through official channels and avoid travel to restricted zones. The government is working to restore normalcy and provide support to affected stakeholders.
The April 22 attack, initially claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), has heightened tensions and prompted tighter security measures across the Valley.
