NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and fellow crew member Butch Wilmore have finally begun their long-awaited return to Earth after being stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) for nine months. Originally set to return aboard Boeing's Starliner in June 2024, a propulsion system failure forced NASA to deem the spacecraft unfit, extending their stay in space.
On Tuesday, Williams and Wilmore undocked from the ISS at 10:35 am IST aboard SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft, with splashdown expected off Florida's coast at 3:27 am IST Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a heartfelt letter, called Williams “India's illustrious daughter” and wished her a safe return, emphasizing the nation's deep admiration for her. As the world watches, NASA and SpaceX engineers closely monitor the spacecraft’s descent, ensuring a smooth and successful homecoming.
