Horses are among the oldest companions of humans, and over centuries, selective breeding has created some truly extraordinary breeds across the world. Each of these six unique horse breeds carries its own identity - a mix of beauty, strength, and history.
The Akhal-Teke from Turkmenistan is often called the “golden horse” because its coat shines like metal under the sun. Known for incredible stamina, it is one of the oldest and rarest breeds. Norway’s Fjord horse is small, powerful, and instantly recognisable by its two-tone mane, making it perfect for farm work and riding.
The Friesian from the Netherlands, with its jet-black coat and long flowing mane, remains a favourite in movies and dressage shows due to its elegant movement. The Gypsy Vanner, bred by Romani families in Ireland and the UK, is admired for its colourful coat and calm nature.
Iceland’s Icelandic horse stands out for its special gaits found in no other breed. And from India, the proud Marwari, known for its inward-curving ears, continues to symbolise loyalty and warrior spirit.
These breeds show how magical and diverse the world of horses truly is.
