A stunning celestial spectacle is set to grace the sky on the evening of June 29–30: a rare, close conjunction of a waxing crescent Moon and Mars. They will align just a few arcminutes apart—barely the width of a pencil held at arm’s length—creating a striking "celestial pair" visible to the naked eye in the western twilight sky.
The Moon will sit directly above Mars in Leo, positioned just beneath the star Regulus, offering a breathtaking view around 9–10 PM local time . With about 22–24% of its surface illuminated, the slender crescent will beautifully contrast with Mars’s warm glow, often described as a "cherry on the Moon".
To view this mesmerizing event, find a clear western horizon shortly after dusk on June 29. No telescope or binoculars are needed, though they can enhance the experience by framing both objects in a single view .
This lunar–planetary alignment is a rare opportunity for skywatchers globally, from India to Europe and beyond. Be sure to step outside next weekend, look up—and enjoy this gift from the cosmos!
