The Char Dham Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to continuous heavy rainfall and landslides across Uttarakhand. The suspension was announced as a precautionary step to safeguard pilgrims. Authorities have alerted district administrations, activated rescue teams, and advised devotees not to travel until conditions normalize.
The alert follows a cloudburst in Uttarkashi, sweeping away nine road construction labourers, all of Nepali origin, near Silai Bend on the Yamunotri highway. Roads have been damaged, fields flooded with debris, and bridges like Kupda Kunshala Trikhili remain under threat.
The IMD has issued a red alert for June 30 and July 1, predicting more intense rain. The Char Dham Yatra began on April 30 and includes visits to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, considered the holiest Hindu pilgrimage.
Further travel decisions will depend on the weather review on June 30, with the IMD expecting conditions to stabilize by July 4.
