Riaz Moola is a South African technologist and entrepreneur who turned his academic excellence into impact. After earning two master’s degrees in advanced computer science and technology policy from the University of Cambridge, Moola founded HyperionDev, now one of Southern Africa’s largest online tech-education companies.
Moola started HyperionDev after witnessing high dropout rates among computer-science students and recognising how limited internet access hindered aspiring programmers. His early course designs used lightweight files rather than large videos so students with weaker connectivity could still learn effectively. This practical, inclusive approach laid the foundation for what became a global coding bootcamp platform.
Under his leadership, HyperionDev secured significant backing — including support from major global players such as Facebook and Google — and expanded rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company now offers courses in partnership with top universities and has taught thousands of students in more than 40 countries, with many graduates securing tech jobs within six months and significantly boosting their incomes.
Beyond HyperionDev, Moola is also involved in other tech ventures, including gaming and software companies, reflecting his broader commitment to expanding access to tech education and opportunity. His journey shows how deep academic grounding can fuel high-impact entrepreneurship that bridges skills gaps across borders.
