The United States is withdrawing personnel from the Middle East as nuclear deal negotiations with Iran stall, heightening regional tensions. President Donald Trump confirmed the partial evacuation, citing safety concerns amid fears of escalating conflict. Trump emphasized that Iran must not acquire a nuclear weapon, a stance echoed by US Senator Tom Cotton, who claimed Iran is actively pursuing nuclear capabilities. Intelligence reports suggest Israel may target Iran's nuclear facilities, further complicating the situation. Trump expressed dwindling confidence in Iran halting its uranium enrichment, hinting at potential US military action if diplomacy fails.
Iranian Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh warned that any attack on Iran would trigger retaliation against US bases in the region, raising the stakes. The US has begun evacuating its embassy in Iraq and allowing military dependents to leave other Middle Eastern locations due to unspecified security risks. As both sides dig in, the region braces for potential conflict.
