India has reclaimed its crown as the kings of T20 cricket, defeating their perennial "bogey team," New Zealand, in a breathtaking final. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the "Men in Blue" delivered a flawless performance in front of a record-breaking home crowd in Ahmedabad, sparking nationwide celebrations.
The Final Showdown: Key Highlights
- Powerplay Carnage: India smashed 92/0 in the first six overs — the joint-highest powerplay score in T20 World Cup history — with New Zealand bowling eight wides, the most they have ever conceded in a T20I.
- Abhishek's Blitz: Abhishek Sharma raced to a 18-ball fifty — the fastest half-century in any T20 World Cup knockout game — despite not quite finding the middle of the bat.
- Samson's Masterclass: Sanju Samson scored 89 off 46 balls with five fours and eight sixes, his third consecutive 80-plus score in the tournament, making him only the second batter after Mahela Jayawardene to achieve that in a T20 World Cup.
- Kishan Joins The Party: Ishan Kishan blazed 54 off 25 balls, putting on a 105-run stand in just 48 balls with Samson for the second wicket before both fell in the same Neesham over.
- Dube Finishes In Style: Shivam Dube walked in and smacked 26 off just eight balls including three fours and two sixes to push India past 255.
- Axar Strikes Early: Chasing 256, New Zealand lost Finn Allen for 9 and Glenn Phillips cheaply as Axar Patel put the chase in a stranglehold inside the powerplay.
- Seifert Fights Alone: Tim Seifert hit a quickfire 52 off 23 balls to give New Zealand some hope, but once he departed, the chase collapsed completely with New Zealand crumbling to 72/4.
- Bumrah's Coup de Grâce: Jasprit Bumrah dismantled the New Zealand middle and lower order with 4/15 across four overs — all four wickets taken with slower balls — sealing India's historic victory.
- Player of the Match: Jasprit Bumrah. Player of the Tournament: Sanju Samson.
