A groundbreaking stone house in Bengaluru is capturing widespread attention for its innovative construction that eliminates cement entirely. The owner claims it to be the world’s first zero-cement house, built using traditional interlocking techniques with granite and sandstone. Designed to last over 1,000 years, the structure reflects ancient architectural principles, much like historic Indian temples.
Blogger Priyam Saraswat’s virtual tour of the house has gone viral, drawing admiration for its sustainability and unique construction method. While many have praised its durability and cooling benefits, others have raised questions about how materials like tiles and granite are layered without cement. The house’s design relies on precise interlocking stones, a technique used in ancient civilizations before the advent of steel and concrete.
According to architect Gagandeep Kapila, this method not only reduces construction costs but also improves thermal regulation, making it an eco-friendly alternative to modern construction. Other sustainable architectural techniques, such as rammed earth designs and modular construction, are also gaining popularity. Rammed earth homes use compacted layers of soil for sturdy, insulated walls, while modular construction optimizes resources by prefabricating components in controlled environments.
As the demand for sustainable housing grows, such innovative approaches could revolutionize modern architecture, offering cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional building materials.
