A Tata car that helped the British win the World War

Tata Group, which is one of the leading companies in India today, has not only manufactured indigenous cars with 5-star safety ratings such as Tata Sierra, Tata Indica and Nexon, but also once manufactured a car that helped the British army achieve a significant victory in World War II. This car also became famous as 'Tatanagar' by Tata due to its specifications.

World War II and Tata's contribution
During the Second World War (1939-1945), when German ruler Adolf Hitler's 'carpet bombing' caused terror in Europe, the British army faced a severe shortage of weapons and war materials. In this crisis, the British government appealed to the Tata Group for help.

Historical contribution of Tata Steel
That was the time when Tata Group, then known as Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO), was one of the leading steel companies in the world. When World War II began in 1939, there was a huge shortage of steel. The British Army was in dire need of steel for armoured vehicles, tanks and weapons. Tata Steel responded to this crisis by producing 110 different types of special steel that were extremely useful for the war. Additionally, Tata Group helped the British Army by running its factories 24 hours a day.

Construction of Tata Nagar
During this difficult time, the British government requested the Tata Group to build special armoured vehicles. Following this, Tata, in collaboration with the Railways Department, designed a 'combat car'. This car was fitted with a Ford V8 engine, which was obtained from the railways. In addition, it was covered with strong armour plates manufactured by Tata Steel. This vehicle was named 'Indian Pattern Carrier', but it became more famous as 'Tatanagar', as it was built in Jamshedpur, also known as 'Tatanagar'.

Strength and influence
Tatanagar became famous for its exceptional strength and robust construction. The Ford V8 engine fitted in it was ideal for war and its steel was so strong that it proved extremely effective during the war. This vehicle played a vital role in helping the British and Allied forces achieve a decisive victory against the Axis powers in North Africa.
