India is set to launch its first hydrogen-powered train on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana by March 31, 2025, marking a groundbreaking milestone in the country's railway sector.
This eco-friendly train, running on hydrogen fuel cells, will produce zero carbon emissions and significantly reduce noise pollution, aligning with India’s commitment to achieving a net-zero carbon goal.
The hydrogen train boasts impressive features, including a top speed of 110 km/h and the ability to carry up to 2,638 passengers, making it highly efficient for large commuter volumes. With an engine power of 1,200 horsepower, it will become the world’s largest hydrogen-powered train, setting a new benchmark in sustainable transportation.
Hydrogen-powered trains are a game-changer for India's railway network, offering numerous benefits such as zero carbon emissions, energy efficiency, long-term cost savings, and a quieter, more comfortable ride for passengers. This initiative is part of Indian Railways' larger goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
The launch of this hydrogen train follows in the footsteps of countries like China, Germany, and the UK, who have already embraced hydrogen rail technology.
