The fusion of creativity and AI takes center stage with KaKa Creation’s bold announcement of "Twins Hinahima", an original anime set to debut in Spring 2025. The series, centered around twin high schoolers striving for TikTok fame, introduces the concept of Supportive AI to showcase AI's potential for creators.
Impressively, over 95% of the animation is AI-generated. While tools like Adobe and Celsys products complement the process, key visuals were initially hand-drawn in Clip Studio Paint before being converted into anime style using AI. Final touches were applied using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.
The story follows twins Himari and Hinana as they navigate their dream of viral fame, only to find themselves in an unfamiliar world. However, the heavy reliance on AI in production has sparked significant backlash, reminiscent of controversies like last year's viral Akira remaster. Critics argue that anime, traditionally crafted through meticulous hand-drawn techniques, is undermined by AI's efficiency.
Social media reactions have been polarizing. While some urge a cautious and curious approach to AI in art, many express disdain. Comments like "An anime made with AI about TikTok fame? Is that the best they could do?" reflect widespread skepticism. Others highlight concerns about animators’ livelihoods, with one user stating, "Animators already face poor pay and treatment- AI would only worsen their situation."
Despite the debate, the integration of technology in anime creation is gaining traction, though often met with ethical concerns about replacing talent with AI. "Twins Hinahima" promises more updates leading up to its Spring 2025 release, but for now, it's at the center of a heated conversation about AI's role in creative industries.
