The internet now experiences an unusual trend because AI-generated videos have started to dominate online content. A cat running a tiny restaurant. A dramatic story where fruits go through emotional life crises. If you have been using the internet during this time period, you will see these particular videos appearing in your social media feed. The content presents itself as strange and humorous, but viewers find it difficult to stop watching. The content exists as part of a more extensive movement that is currently occurring.
The combination of OpenAI Sora and Runway ML enables creators to transform basic concepts into complete videos within a few minutes. The process requires no need for cameras, actors or advanced editing equipment. AI systems can create complete scenes with just a user prompt. The new information creates unpredictable experiences, which lead to content spreading rapidly across Instagram and YouTube.
However, the viral trend also comes with serious concerns. Technology related to Deepfake can replicate human faces and voices with impressive accuracy. While some AI videos are harmless and humorous, similar technology can be used to create misleading or manipulated content. In a fast-moving online environment, viewers may not always realise when a video is artificially generated.
The larger issue is trust. Videos have traditionally been considered reliable evidence, but AI now makes it possible to fabricate realistic footage. This blurs the boundary between entertainment and misinformation.
Addressing this challenge will require both technological and social solutions. Platforms may need stronger AI-detection systems and clearer labels for synthetic content. At the same time, improving digital literacy is important so that viewers learn to question and verify what they see online. AI videos are redefining creativity on the internet, but their rapid spread also reminds us that innovation without responsibility can easily create confusion rather than clarity.
