President-elect Donald Trump has delivered a firm ultimatum to Hamas, urging the immediate release of hostages before his January 20 inauguration. Addressing the press at Mar-a-Lago, Trump stated that if the hostages are not freed by the time he assumes office, “all hell will break out in the Middle East.” This stark warning underscores the urgency surrounding the hostage situation.
Trump’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steven Charles Witkoff, described the negotiations as being on the brink of success. He attributed this progress to Trump’s influence, emphasizing the president-elect’s firm stance and clearly outlined expectations. "It’s his reputation and red lines driving this negotiation," Witkoff explained. While he refrained from detailing specific setbacks, he expressed optimism that a breakthrough could be announced by Inauguration Day.
Trump’s warning extended beyond rhetoric. He recounted harrowing stories from the conflict, including the tragic fate of a young woman, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing crisis. His remarks were aimed at both pressuring Hamas and reassuring the families of victims and hostages. "It’s not just about negotiations," Trump asserted, "it’s about saving lives."
As the deadline approaches, Trump’s ultimatum sets a decisive tone for his foreign policy. With negotiations continuing in Doha, the world watches closely to see if diplomacy prevails or if the incoming administration’s threats escalate regional tensions.
