Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government's commitment to completely eliminate Maoist insurgency in India by March 31, 2026. Speaking following a major operation in Chhattisgarh, Shah praised security forces for their success in neutralizing extremist threats.
In the recent Karregutta Hill operation along the Chhattisgarh–Telangana border—the largest anti-Maoist mission to date—31 Maoists were killed. Authorities also seized 450 IEDs, 40 weapons, and large quantities of other materials, while hoisting the national flag atop the hill, symbolizing a reclaiming of territory once controlled by insurgents.
Highlighting progress, Shah noted that incidents of Maoist violence have declined dramatically. From 2010 to 2024, such incidents dropped from nearly 1,936 to 374, and the number of affected districts fell from 126 to just 18. He further encouraged underground Maoists to surrender and embrace the government's rehabilitation and development initiatives.
Shah emphasized that through a two-pronged strategy—combining robust security operations with infrastructure and welfare measures—Maoist influence is now confined to a shrinking core. He expressed optimism that the historic internal security challenge, now concentrated in just a few districts, can be resolved definitively within the proposed timeframe.
