Tejashwi faces EC notice over duplicate voter IDs!

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a formal notice to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav after discovering two different EPIC numbers associated with him—RAB0456228 and RAB2916120. The latter, which Yadav cited during a media briefing, was not officially issued. The commission has demanded he surrender the unregistered EPIC to aid further investigation.

Yadav had earlier alleged that his name was missing from the revised Bihar electoral rolls, accusing the EC of deliberately deleting voters—claiming around 65 lakh names were removed. However, the EC and Patna's district magistrate confirmed that his name appears under the earlier EPIC number, and no official changes were made.

Political opponents, including BJP and JD(U), accused Yadav of irresponsible behavior and misinformation. Meanwhile, the EC has launched an investigation into potential forgery related to the unrecognized EPIC number, emphasizing the need for clear electoral records ahead of the looming Bihar elections.

The controversy comes amidst the wider Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s voter rolls a contentious exercise meant to cleanse inaccuracies, but criticized for allegedly disenfranchising poor and migrant voters. The incident underscores growing mistrust and heightened scrutiny of electoral transparency in the state.
