Annual surfing competition 2026 is here! But it's NOT for HUMANS!

The annual World Dog Surfing Championships will take place on August 2 at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, near San Francisco, featuring canines riding Pacific waves in this unique water sports event.

Dogs will compete for the Golden Surfie Award, judged on ride length, wave size, and technique. Contestants have 10 minutes to catch waves, with bonus points for tricks performed on surfboards. Multiple categories exist based on dog weight and board capacity, including human-dog partnerships.

The event includes additional activities like a beach fashion contest and rescue dog adoption drive. Various breeds including pit bulls, pugs, and Labradors have participated in previous years, showcasing their surfing skills while standing, sitting, or lying on boards.

The competition began in 2006 and has inspired similar events worldwide.
