In “Tanvi The Great”, Anupam Kher makes his directorial comeback, weaving a moving tale about Tanvi (Shubhangi Dutt), a 21-year-old with autism determined to fulfill her late soldier father’s dream of saluting the flag at Siachen . The narrative blossoms in the first half, rooted in emotional realism and familial bonds - Shubhangi shines with authenticity, while Kher’s portrayal of her grandfather adds quiet gravitas .
Set against the pastoral beauty of Uttarakhand, the film radiates warmth and optimism. Its score by M M Keeravani and visuals by Keiko Nakahara enhance the atmosphere without overshadowing the story . However, the second half stretches believability with abrupt tonal shifts and dramatic excess that undercut character consistency - Tanvi’s transformation from realistic portrayal to cinematic hero feels jarring .
While the film admirably highlights autism awareness and respect for the armed forces, its narrative imbalance prevents it from achieving its full emotional potential. Still, “Tanvi The Great” deserves credit for its heartfelt message, leaving viewers with a lingering sense of hope.
