Rainstorms continue to stretch Delhi’s resilience. Early on September 2, the city is dodging intermittent thunderstorms lasting well into the evening amid warm temperatures and high humidity readings (currently around 25 °C, rising to 29 °C this afternoon) .
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has escalated the alert to orange for Delhi NCR, signaling heightened weather severity. Persistent rain poses threats of waterlogging, particularly ahead of monsoon’s seasonal intensity and Delhi’s already saturated August.
Complicating matters, the Yamuna river continues its upward climb already above the warning threshold. The Loha Pul bridge is scheduled for closure today, as authorities brace for possible flooding with river levels projected to surpass the danger mark.
Public transit is under strain. Traffic snarls across Gurugram and Delhi persist, prompting authorities to advise schools and offices to switch to remote work when feasible. Earlier, the city witnessed chaotic commute conditions, with vehicles marooned across major junctions like Qutub Minar, Saket, and Mehrauli, while an ambulance faced a 30-minute delay despite emergencies.
