In 2025, Sabyasachi Mukherjee celebrated 25 years of his eponymous label, a brand synonymous with Indian bridal dreams. Starting with just ₹20,000 and a small team, Sabyasachi has built an empire rooted in tradition and craftsmanship, creating ensembles that have become staples on every bride's vision board.
His designs have adorned some of Bollywood’s most iconic brides. Anushka Sharma’s pastel pink lehenga, with intricate hand embroidery, remains a benchmark of elegance. Deepika Padukone’s traditional red Sindhi wedding outfit, featuring the memorable veil inscribed with “Sada Saubhagyavati Bhava,” set social media abuzz. Priyanka Chopra’s sindoor red lehenga celebrated Indian and Western cultures, with her family’s names embroidered on the waistband.
Sabyasachi’s journey began in 2002 at India Fashion Week, where his debut collection received accolades. His international breakthrough came when he became the first Indian designer to showcase at Milan Fashion Week. Despite global success, he chose to remain in Kolkata, focusing on preserving Indian crafts and empowering artisans.
The designer attributes his growth to a combination of passion and pragmatism, stating in interviews that financial independence has fueled his creative freedom. He has also taken a step back from international fashion weeks to give young designers their moment in the spotlight, underscoring his humility.
Sabyasachi’s creations are more than just clothing; they are pieces of art that celebrate Indian heritage. As brides beam with joy in his lehengas, his legacy as a storyteller and custodian of tradition continues to inspire.
