In a major breakthrough in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks case, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused and close aide of David Coleman Headley, has been extradited to India. A special aircraft carrying the Pakistan-born Canadian national landed in Delhi on Thursday evening, following the US Supreme Court's rejection of his plea against extradition.
Rana is accused of helping plan the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, which left 166 people dead and shocked the world. He was brought back by a multi-agency Indian team that traveled to the US to secure his custody.
Rana's extradition marks a crucial step forward in holding international conspirators accountable for the 60-hour siege that targeted Mumbai's CST station, Taj and Oberoi hotels, and the Jewish Chabad House.
Officials have stated he will face trial under Indian law, reigniting calls for justice nearly 16 years after the horrific assault.
