Congress on Sunday publicly challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct an "undoctored" press conference, highlighting that he has not held a single truly free‑question session since assuming office in May 2014 . In a pointed post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "Every head of government in the world has a freewheeling press conference now and then. Ours has had none for 11 years”.
Ramesh further accused Modi of treating media interactions like scripted productions, recalling how the PM “produced, directed, and scripted” his 2024 election campaign interviews- even joking about being "non‑biological" . Echoing the criticism, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera slammed the PM’s administration as “a joke,” stating that his term was ending and branding his governance as "in tatters".
The Congress party’s demand comes amid growing concerns over transparency and accountability. By daring Modi to hold an open, unscripted press conference, the opposition underscores a pivotal question: Shouldn’t the nation expect its leader to face the tough questions he has seemingly long avoided?
