Starting July 1, 2025, the Delhi government will prohibit all end-of-life (EOL) vehicles—including those registered outside Delhi-from refuelling at petrol pumps. This move, ordered by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), aims to combat rising air pollution in the capital.
Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed at fuel stations to identify and stop such vehicles. If caught once, owners can sign an affidavit and leave with the vehicle. On the second offense, the vehicle will be seized and sent to a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF).
Penalties range from ₹5,000 for two-wheelers to ₹10,000 for four-wheelers. The rule will expand to NCR areas from November 1.
Delhi has over 1 crore expired vehicles, including 62 lakh two-wheelers and 41 lakh cars. The step follows earlier Supreme Court and NGT rulings banning old petrol and diesel vehicles.
