In 2016, a social science student from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) decided to skip her Goa trip and instead use the ₹26,000 she saved to start a business. With an additional ₹34,000 raised through crowdfunding, she launched Organiko, a skincare startup that uses donkey milk as the main ingredient.
The idea came during a research visit to Solapur, where she saw how donkeys were used by labourers in brick kilns. She discovered that donkey milk has rich skincare benefits but was completely unused in the Indian market. She convinced locals to sell her the milk at fair rates, improving their incomes.
With basic training in soap making, she created her first batch of donkey milk soaps. After receiving a great response at Delhi exhibitions, she officially launched Organiko. Today, the brand offers soaps and skincare products priced between ₹350 and ₹1,400 and ships over 500 orders every month.
More than 150 rural families have benefited from this venture, seeing their monthly income rise from ₹5,000 to ₹14,000-all thanks to one bold and meaningful idea.
