Elon Musk’s surprising exit from Trump’s DOGE team—what’s behind the curtain?

Elon Musk has officially concluded his six-month tenure as a special government employee in President Donald Trump's administration, marking the end of his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk expressed gratitude to President Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending and emphasized that the DOGE mission will continue to strengthen over time.

Musk's departure follows his public criticism of the administration's flagship legislative proposal, the "big beautiful bill," which he described as a "massive spending bill" that undermines efforts to reduce government waste. He stated, "I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful, but I don’t know if it could be both."

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) expressed support for Musk's concerns, indicating growing resistance within the GOP to unchecked spending. President Trump defended the legislation, acknowledging mixed feelings but expressing enthusiasm for certain aspects.
